It’s no oxymoron; these flexible, solid materials are “Resilient”. Available in a full range of precision embossed and printed finishes.

A CATEGORY OF IT'S OWN

Resilient is the name given to products like linoleum, vinyl, rubber and other non-textile flooring because of the solid nature and its’ ability to flex or “give” a little when walked on. Resilient flooring has been around for a long time. Linoleum, the oldest type of resilient has been in existence for over 150 years!

This type of flooring has advanced leaps and bounds, offering an endless array of colors and patterns. You can find styles like upscale ceramic, wood, and the intricate designs of stone and marble. Resilient comes in a full range of finishes which are embossed and printed with such precision that they look and feel like the real thing!

For protection, resilient flooring is being made with urethane including aluminum oxide particles which are the same tough topcoat used in wear layers now used for woods and laminate. This makes these new resilient floors easy to clean up and resistant to scratching.

SHEET VINYL

Sheet Vinyl comes in an endless variety of designs and colors, is low in cost, easy to maintain, durable, and water resistant. It comes in a 6-foot and 12-foot width. The 12-foot has become a popular option because it helps to eliminates seams. Sheet vinyl can be self-installed but it takes a lot of precision and a skilled installer is highly recommended.

LUXURY VINYL TILE FLOORING

Luxury Vinyl Tile is at the high end of resilient flooring. It has superior performance and looks so authentic that it can be difficult to distinguish as a vinyl product. The high definition imaging and treated surface texture mimics its’ natural counterpart.

New designs in luxury tile include everything from contemporary colors, vivid brights, pearlized finishes and abstracts with soft patterns. Other looks are exotic and distressed woods, colored concretes and fossilized stone plus metallics and wide planks. They can even be installed with grout!

Luxury tile can perform better than wood and stone! Benefits include easier installation, never needs refinishing, will not warp due to excessive water, resists scratches, remains quieter to walk on, and is warm to the touch.

BEST USES FOR RESILIENT FLOORING

Resilient can be installed just about anywhere, but especially in wet areas, children’s or handicapped rooms where an easy- to-walk-on surface is a must. Also, resilient flooring is great in niche areas like entryways, areas where you don’t want seams, and any place where you need an easy-to-clean floor.

TIPS

Tips Because resilient is so easy to keep clean it’s hygienic! There are no places for dirt, grime or germs to hide and it’s skid resistant.

BASIC MAINTENANCE

Spills and messes are easily wiped up. Regular sweeping and occasional damp mopping with a manufacturer recommended non-abrasive cleaner will eliminate dust particles.

To care for your new resilient floor and keep it looking new, follow these simple tips…

AFTER INSTALLATION

For the first 24 hours, do not put furniture or heavy objects down and avoid walking on newly installed floors as much as possible, especially on the seams.

For the first 2 days, keep the room at 68 degrees or higher to allow the adhesive to properly set.

Cover your entryways with non-staining mats to reduce the amount of dirt, sand, and oil that could be tracked in. Avoid mats that have a rubber backing as this may cause damage or discolor your flooring.

Take your shoes off at the door! Be sure to wear slippers or socks. Your feet have oil on them that will transfer onto the floor.

Cover your furniture legs with floor protectors that are made of hard plastic or felt.

ROUTINE CARE

Vacuum or sweep regularly to remove loose dirt. Use a vacuum without a beater bar to avoid scratching your floor.

When further cleaning is needed, use a mop with warm water. Use water by itself or use a manufacturer- recommended cleaning product. It should be a cleaner that rinses clean. Many cleaners can leave behind a sticky residue that will act like a dirt magnet and allow dirt to build up on your flooring.

Use non-abrasive cleansers or scrubbing pads on your resilient floor to avoid scratches.

To prevent stains, wipe up spills immediately.

Use a non-abrasive scrubbing pad for stubborn stains that are caused by these: Mustard, ink, permanent marker, asphalt,
shoe polish, mold, mildew or hair dye.

TIPS

Need to remove black heel marks? Spray some WD40 on a cloth and wipe off the marks. Clean the area with warm water and a mild detergent, then rinse clean.

If your floor begins to look dull, try cleaning it with 1 tablespoon clear ammonia mixed with 1 quart of warm water. If that doesn’t work, use the manufacturer’s recommended solution to return it to its original shine.

If a seam becomes exposed or if there is a cut in the vinyl, cover it to prevent dirt and further damage, then call a flooring professional to fix it.
