Nylon Nylon carpet fiber is soft yet strong, shows color brilliantly,
and is easy to clean. It is very resilient, fade resistant, and
retains its texture well. Newer Nylons called “Nylon 6” or
“Nylon 6/6” are more expensive but are engineered to be
more durable and resistant to wear. These carpets are great
choice for anywhere in the home, especially places where
stains may occur.
Luxurious Carpet Showrooms
Soft and inviting, carpet adds a luxurious
feel to any room; while cushioning sound
and improving air quality.
TEXTURED
A Textured carpet is one of the most popular and well known. It is a cut pile carpet with tight crimps and alternating twists. This creates a casual and super soft feel. It is also known for hiding footprints and vacuum marks. This construction comes at multiple price points to fit the style and budget of anyone. It will hold up to heavy traffic and active families.
Good For: High traffic. Informal look.
TWIST/FRIEZE
The Twist, also known as Frieze, is a cut style with tight twists that bend away from each other and slightly curl at the end. It has a textured surface look, highly durable, and good for active areas in the home. This carpet is the best choice for hiding footprints and common markings. It can also be a good choice for commercial projects.
Good For: High traffic. Contemporary look.
LOOP
Commonly referred to as Berber, Loop carpet is an uncut yarn that creates a firm durable surface. It is easy to clean, holds up to wear, and lasts a long time. When the loops are all the same length, they are called Level Loops. This creates a smooth surface and each individual loop can be seen.
Good For: Active rooms. Casual look. Low maintenance.
SAXONY
Saxony carpet is dense and elegant. It looks like velvet and feels as soft. The yarn is level cut, with equal twists, and heat set for a uniform finish. This carpet has an expensive look and feel. Saxony is not recommended for high traffic areas since it will likely show footprints and vacuum marks.
Good For: Low traffic. Elegant spaces.
CABLE
This carpet style is thick, long, and twisty. The yarn is cut at a variety of lengths. It is soft to walk on, but not good for high activity rooms, hallways, or stairs, due to its tendency for it to crush beneath the feet.
Good For: Low traffic. Soft feel.
CUT & LOOP
Cut & Loop combines both cut and uncut loops to create patterns and textures. These styles can come in one color or in multiple colors. The advantages are they offer many different styles and looks, whether a contemporary and formal space is in mind. This construction of carpet can disguise stains and withstands wear.
Good For: A variety of choices. Contemporary or formal areas.
NYLON
POLYPROPYLENE (OLEFIN)
The use of polypropylene in carpet has grown dramatically
over the past ten years. It is extremely resistant to moisture,
stains, fading, and chemical cleaning agents. Polypropylene, a
value-oriented fiber, is notably colorfast because it is solution
dyed, which means the color is added during the fiber
production and not dyed later. Because it’s so resistant to
moisture and mildew, it’s generally a good choice for both
outdoor and indoor areas including playrooms, kitchens and
dens.
POLYESTER (P.E.T.)
Made from recycled P.E.T. products, like plastic soda bottles, it
is stronger than polypropylene and can perform as well as
nylon at a lower cost. It offers exceptional softness, making it
ideal for thick, cut pile styles. Polyester is also naturally and
permanently stain and fade resistant. It has excellent color
clarity, color retention, strength, and abrasion resistance.
Carpets made from polyester are easily cleaned and they
resist water soluble stains. As a recycled product, it is an
inexpensive environmentally friendly option.
WOOL
Wool is the crème de la crème of carpet fiber. It was the
original fiber for carpet and is the only natural one of the four
main fibers. It is tough and durable yet soft and luxurious.
Dust, dirt, and oil-based stains come out easily because wool
naturally releases the soil rather than absorbing it. In a high
traffic room, it stays resilient and bounces back. It’s also
environmentally friendly because it comes from a renewable
resource. Wool is the most expensive carpet fiber and is
generally used only in luxury carpets and area rugs.
When you purchase a carpet made with any of these fibers,
you’ll get a comprehensive warranty from the manufacturer.
Ask your Abbey expert for more information about the
performance and warranties on these products.
ADVANCED GENERATION NYLONS
Advanced Generation Nylons are also called “branded fibers”
because they have a specific brand name. Buying branded
versus unbranded carpet makes a huge difference. Branded
fibers are manufactured to a strict set of standards and offer
better performance, stain, static, and crush resistance. The
fibers have been specially treated with stain and soil resistant
resins that were applied during the dyeing process. We
feature the following branded fibers:
• Softique®
• Infinity Nylon Carpet Fiber®
You’ll find carpet made with these branded fibers on our Alexander Smith and American Showcase displays in our
showrooms. These branded fibers receive our Exclusive
Lifetime Warranties.

USE ENTRANCE MATS
Place floor mats inside and outside entrances to trap soil
before it is tracked into your home.
CLEAN SPOTS AND SPILLS IMMEDIATELY
For best results, give prompt attention to spots and spills.
Use a spoon or dull knife to remove solid materials. Blot up
liquid spills with a white towel. Never rub, scrub or use a
brush. This may cause damage to the carpet fibers. Use a
cleaning agent and procedure appropriate for the type of
stain being removed.
Apply all cleaning agents to the cloth rather than directly to
the stained area to avoid saturating the carpet when spot
cleaning. Clean the fibers, not the backing.
Deep stains might require repeat cleaning because they can
“wick” back up after initial cleaning.
Work from the outside to the center of large stains. This
prevents spreading.
BEWARE OF COLOR DESTROYING SUBSTANCES
The chemical ingredients contained in these substances can
cause your nylon or nylon blend carpet to become
permanently discolored.
• Bleaches
• Furniture polish
• Oven cleaners
• Plant foods, fertilizers and insecticides
• Acne medication and skin creams
• Toilet bowl cleaners
• Tub and tile cleaners
• Drain cleaners
• Bathroom cleaners
PRO TIP
You can’t vacuum too often. For most carpet types, using a vacuum with a beater bar or rotating brush is good choice. It will loosen the dirt making it easier for the vacuum to remove soil.
However, carpet with thick loop pile construction such as berber or shag, and all wool and wool-blend styles, use a SUCTION-ONLY vacuum or a vacuum with an adjustable brush lifted away from the carpet so it does not agitate the pile. The brushing, rubbing or scraping of beater bars may cause fuzzing and pile distortion. And ultimately may void your warranty.
When using the beater/brush bar, be sure to test it in an inconspicuous location before regular use to make sure it doesn’t produce excessive fuzzing.
Carpet sweepers and electric brooms are useful for picking
up crumbs and surface soil, but it’s important to know that
they will not deep clean.

Exclusive Lifetime Warranty Guidelines
LIMITED LIFETIME STAIN WARRANTY
Abbey Carpet & Floor warrants that your Infinity Nylon
Carpet Fiber™, Alexander Smith, Softique™, American
Showcase, Premier Stainmaster® or Legendary Beauty
carpeting will remain stain resistant to most household food
beverage substances from the date of the original installation
in an owner-occupied residence in a proper indoor installation
for as long as you own your carpet. This warranty coverage
runs from the date your carpet is installed for as long as you
own it (non-transferable).
Limited Lifetime Stain Warranty Exclusions:
This Limited Lifetime Stain Warranty specifically excludes
stains from substances such as bleaches, caustic chemicals,
insecticides, paints, shoe polish, lipstick, plant food, iodine,
very strong dyes, acids, feces, oil-based substances,
and vomit.
Also specifically excluded: any carpet which has been treated
after installation with any silicone-based anti-soil treatments;
any carpet in any nonresidential use; any carpet subjected to
abnormal abuse; any carpet exposed to very hot substances
or other abusive conditions; damage due to the application
of improper cleaning agents; deterioration in appearance
not related to staining of pile fibers. This warranty is voided if you
fail to follow recommended carpet care and cleaning instructions.
Cleaning the affected area should begin immediately upon
discovery. The more time that elapses before removal, the
more difficult a stain will be to remove.
LIMITED LIFETIME SOIL WARRANTY
Abbey Carpet & Floor warrants that your Infinity Nylon
Carpet Fiber™, Alexander Smith, Softique™, American
Showcase, Premier Stainmaster® or Legendary Beauty
carpeting will resist soiling by most common household soil. If
you properly maintain our carpet, soil will clean up more
thoroughly, and less residue will remain on your carpet. This
warranty coverage runs from the date your carpet is installed
for as long as you own it (non-transferable). Soil resistance
means the ability of your carpet to resist (i.e. minimize or
withstand) retention of the common dry dirt normally
associated with carpet. Keep in mind, light-colored carpets
will show soiling more than darker colors and will require
more frequent maintenance to retain their appearance.
Limited Lifetime Soil Warranty Exclusions:
Any carpet which has been treated after installation with any
silicone-based anti-soil treatments; any carpet in any
nonresidential use; any carpet subjected to abnormal abuse;
any carpet exposed to very hot substances or other abusive
conditions; damage due to the application of improper
cleaning agents; deterioration in appearance not related to
staining of pile fibers. This warranty is voided if you fail to
follow recommended carpet care and cleaning instructions.
Cleaning the affected area should begin immediately upon
discovery. The more time that elapses before removal, the
more difficult a stain will be to remove.
LIMITED LIFETIME ABRASIVE WEAR WARRANTY
Abbey Carpet & Floor warrants that your Infinity Nylon
Carpet Fiber™, Alexander Smith, Softique™, American
Showcase, Premier Stainmaster® or Legendary Beauty
carpeting will not abrasively wear away by more than 10% in
any area of the carpet when used in an owner-occupied
residence in a proper indoor installation from the date of the
original installation for as long as you own your carpet (non-
transferable). Proper installation requires use of a suitable pad
with a thickness of 7/16″ or less and minimum 6-lb density,
following the Carpet & Rug Institute Installation Standards
effective October 1, 2009. Consult your Abbey Carpet &
Floor retailer for details. Abrasive wear means fiber loss, and
not changes in appearance such as crushing or matting.
Limited Lifetime Abrasive Wear Warranty Exclusions:
Carpet installed outdoors or in areas subject to other than
ordinary shoe traffic is excluded from this warranty. Crushing
caused by furniture, including impressions left by legs of
furniture, is not covered by this warranty.
